Poor hygiene: If the crown was well made and covered the "margins" [where the tooth meets the crown is sealed] there should be no decay. Only two things can cause "recurrent decay [decay under crowns] a- poorly made crown that did not seal b- poor oral hygiene after a well made crown was fabricated.

Crown decay: How old are the crowns? Are they in the front or back ? What type of crowns are they? Gold, porcelain, porcelain covered with metal? You need to take good care of the crown by brushing, flossing, and using Fluoride to brush around them-the Fluoride will help protect the gum line and help to desensitize the root area.
