Does xray show underneath crown?

Dr. Balu Mani answered

No: Since crown is a metal, regular dental x-rays do not penetrate the crown. But one can see the roots and bony socket below the crown.

Depends: If the material used to make the crown is radiolucent [transparent to xrays] the answer is yes. Materials such as all porcelain crowns are radiolucent. Crowns with metal in them such as porcelain fused to metal crowns, or all metal crowns or zirconium crowns are radio-opaque and xrays will not go thru they so youcannot seen underneath them.
