Yes: A pulled muscle may hurt with breathing, but many other conditions also hurt with deep breathing such as pneumonia, blood clots, or pneumothorax. This is a scenario where the history really matters. If you were moving furniture or lifting heavy objects, this may very well be a pulled muscle. But if not, consider other possible diagnoses.
