A member asked:

What if augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) does not work with impetigo?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Wrong antibiotic.: Impetigo is a a skin infection mostly caused by 2 major germs--staph or strep. Whereas Augmentin (amoxicillin and clavulanate) actually does a pretty good job with strep-type germs, it is not very effective for staph infection. Therefore, this suggests that your impetigo is probably caused by a staph bacteria instead of strep. Sounds as if you need to call your health care professional for another attempt at your impetigo!
