Often: Silicone gel can improve raised and red scars but can also cause allergic reaction in sensitive patients (often patients who have had defective breast implants).

Scar improvement: Silicone gel is actually one of the only scar treatments that has data to show it's effectiveness. Other treatments that have been shown to have positive results include covering the scar with paper tape and/or the use of compressive garments.

Yes: Silicone gel sheeting is very effective at soothing, smoothing and reducing redness in scars. By keeping the surface occluded and moist, the sites often will resolve sooner and will less scarring.
