Immune response: Antibodies come from the immune system. Itp can be autoimmune, in which case the antibodies are inappropriately formed by the immune system. Itp commonly occurs after a viral illness in children. In this case, the antibody is formed appropriately to a viral stimulus, but incidentally attacks the platelets.
