A few things: A few things. It may not be the Adams apple (larynx) it may be surrounding tissues. See an ENT doc for assessment.

GERD: Acid from the stomach comes up and irritates the back of the throat, causing pain, discomfort and swelling. See your PCP for definitive diagnosis, tests and treatment.
