How long does drug rehab typically last?

One to three months: In patient rehabilitation typically lasts four weeks. If the treatment is for a relapse or chronic relapsing then a longer stay will be recommended. Overall, however, rehabilitation for addiction is a life long commitment.

Varies, longer best: Brief detox (control severe withdrawals) may be 1-5 days in a hospital. Minimum for real rehab work (addressing reasons for addiction & learning to deal with life without drugs) is 30 days in semi-controlled setting (residential treatment). People with many relapses or other mental health issues often benefit from longer programs, up to 1 yr. Ongoing support like 12-step program can be lifelong.
