Is there an objective way to diagnose an addiction?

No: It is based on an interpretation of behaviors-there is no objective test.

These seem objective: 1.High tolerance--can imbibe larger and larger amounts 2.Withdrawal signs if does not have substance 3.Persistent desire & unsuccessful attempts to cut back 3.Many other previously valued activities given up because of use 4. The substance is continued despite the individual knowing it is causing major problems in his/her life 5. Much time spent getting, buying, enjoying substance 6.Secretiveness.
