Dry socket: The symptoms(severe pain) usually occur about 72 hours after the extraction. The blood clot is usually lost soon after the procedure.

Yes: Dry sockets pain may last in some instances a few weeks. Most dentist have a medicated dressing that can be placed that will give more relief than pain medications.
