Depends some on age.: Autism spectrum disorder is still being defined, but the intent is to refer to individuals with autism-like symptoms of differing severity. The 3 broad areas of problems are impaired ability to connect with other socially, impaired language, and odd or bizarre behaviors. Each of these categories have specific criteria that must be assessed in the context of the patients mental age.

Delay in development: This is a spectrum of disorders with high functioning add, adhd, tourette at the lower end of the spectrum and lower functioning autism at the top. Apart from "trivial" illnesses in infancy, everythng seems to be o.K until about 2 years when failure of speech and/or troilet training may be the presenting symptoms. Do not hesitate to get it checked out as early as possible if such symptoms exist.
