Medical evaluation: You should have a thorough physical exam to evaluate for weakness or numbness. Initial management may be nsaids and physical therapy. Epidural steroid injection may reduce symptoms. Surgical decompression may be a good option in some cases.

Conservative first: Try conservative treatments first--nsaid's, therapy, steroids, pain management. If your pain does not get better, or if you have significant disability (inability to walk, bowel/bladder problems, etc), then i would consider surgical decompression of the nerve.
