Not necessarily: After you ovulate, the follicle (egg cyst) forms a corpus luteum (latin for yellow body). Corpus luteum produces progesterone in anticipation of becoming pregnant and stays around until about 12 weeks until the placenta takes over production. If you don't conceive it resolves and the cycle starts all over again.
