Referred pain: Facial pain is often difficult to diagnose. Sometimes pain in a particular tooth is referred from a problem in the sinus or the joint near the ear (tmj). Sometimes pain in the ear can be from a tooth. It's best to see a dentist for a proper diagnosis and then treatment. Spreading pain from a tooth may simply mean that there is an infection spreading or pain radiating. See a dentist.

Referred pain: When a tooth's pulp is inflamed or infected, pain can travel , via the nerves that go to that tooth , centrally. For example , main nerve of the lower jaw comes out of the brain and has branches to the eye, upper jaw, and lower jaw. So a lower molar toot cann cause pain to the upper jaw, ear, and sometimes the eye. It is how we are neurologically wired. There are many more examples.
