Depends: Most pink eye is caused by a viral infection on the covering the eyeball-called the conjunctiva. Once infected its called conjunctivitis; this can develop over a few days or 1-2 weeks. You infect your eye when you touch a surface (or person) with the virus and rub your eye-transfering the virus. Some are from sexually transmitted bacteria. They take a week to show up. Got your eye md.
