Dr. Amir Khan answered

Repeat u/s: Your doctor will monitor the treatment and resolution of the blood clot. Generally you will be placed on a blood thinner for upto six months. In addition you will have ultrasound studies performed to assess the resolution of the clot. Although many doctors can treat a clot, a hematologist is a specialist that addresses a blood clot problem.
