Iron deficiency: For therapeutic effect, taking iron supplements requires more consistent dosing than just the 4-5 days of your menstrual periods. There are multivitamins for women that can be taken daily, containing iron. Check labels. Take with meals to avoid nausea. Be well.

Iron deficiency: Supplements of iron can build up your iron stores, and the amount that is needed depends on how deficient you are. Blood tests for iron, ferritin, and hemoglobin can help to determine this. If your periods are heavy and more frequent, then daily iron may be necessary. Speak with your doctor about the details of your test results and your degree of deficiency.

Iron deficient: If you are anemic take the iron on a continual basis and not on a hit or miss schedule.

Silly: The iron you loose is in the bloody uterine matrix that builds up over a month. Treatment for a couple of days doesn't give the body time to recoup your loss.
