Muscle spasm: Anything that causes the abdominal wall muscles or the stomach muscles to go into an extended contractual state will cause the 'stomach' to become rigid. I put the word stomach in quotes because it may the abdominal wall muscles overlying the stomach that is rigid. This can be done voluntarily (like making a muscles) or involuntary due to, for example, pain.
