Hard tender stomach: The most common reason for a hard (probably distended) stomach that is tender to touch is gas. With severe intraperitoneal infections or inflammation this can also happen, but with these your entire abdomen is hard and you know you're really sick. Gas will pass by itself in an hour or two. If the pain lasts more than 24-36 hours, get it checked.
