Herpes 101: These are two separate viruses. Type two is more dangerous. It can infect the eyes of newborns and lead to blindness. Men who have sex with men who have herpes type two are five times more likely to get hiv. The only way to tell if you have been exposed and to which or both viruses is through a blood test. 90% of infected people never have visible signs of infection.

HSV: Hsv1 is generally oral infection only and hsv2 is generally genital. They are passed with bodily fluid contact. Hsv1 and 2 can be passed with oral sex. A test by your doctor can tell if it is type 1 or 2. Practice safe sex always.
