What is the definition or description of: insulin resistance?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually due: To obesity but also infection, steroids, etc. It is that Insulin has a diminished effect on lowering blood sugar by either dumping it into muscle or preventing glucose output from the liver. Both lead to higher sugars and the need for more Insulin to do the job -- thus the name Insulin resistance.
