Macular Degeneration: Macula is the central area of the retina that is responsible for fine, detailed vision. This area can become damaged with age. There are two forms of macular degeneration: dry and wet. Age is the most common cause. Like many things, there are genetic and environmental factors.

Two types: Genetic disease affecting the central vision in some older adults. 1. Dry age-related macular degeneration: treated with areds vitamins, tobacco cessation. 2. Wet age-related macular degeneration: intravitreal injections of anti-vegf molecules like avastin, lucentis, (ranibizumab) or eylea.
