A member asked:

Is it normal for a newborn's belly to rise when he breaths?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes: Newborns breathe using the diaphragm, pulling it downward and pushing the belly out in the process. When they get older they develop more strength in their chest muscles and can use them more like older kids and adults do.
