Breast cancer genes: They stand for breast cancer gene 1 and gene 2. Women with mutations in these genes are prone to develop breast cancer and ovarian cancer and these cancers tend to develop at a much younger age than the garden variety breast cancers.

The first gene found was named BRCA1 (BReast CAncer first gene found) and the second one was named BRCA2. The search for other genes continues.
