Who should take the brca1/brca2 test?

Family History.: As many as 5-10% of all breast cancer patients have the hereditary form of breast cancer. This risk factor, brca, may be determined by a simple blood test. This test is appropriate for people that have other close family members who have had either breast or ovarian cancer, especially if they were diagnosed prior to menopause and/or had cancer in both breasts.

Know risk factors!: Genetic testing is recommended for: 1)a personal history of breast cancer at age 50 or younger 2)a personal history of triple negative breast cancer (breast cancer that is estrogen receptor-negative, Progesterone receptor-negative and her2/neu receptor-negative) 3)a personal or family history of male breast cancer 4)a personal or family history of bilateral breast cancer 5)history of ovarian cance.
