Depends on the cause: Bronchitis in a non smoker is usually caused by a virus. Hence antibiotics are not going to help. It has to run its course but there are number of therapeutic options for symptomatic relief. Steam inhalations, cough expectorant not suppressant are a few non prescription measures.

Possibly....: Sometimes, the cough from acute bronchitis can worsen over time because of bronchospasm. This can happen even if you are taking the appropriate antibiotics, if it is due to bacteria. If this occurs, bronchodilator and steroid inhalers can treat the bronchospasm and airway inflammation so see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment if the cough is worsening or not resolved within 10-14 days.
