A member asked:

Can you determine a umbilical hernia in a colonoscopy?

Not the best test: An umbilical hernia usually only contains a small loop of small intestine. Unless it is massive, there will be no problem completing your colonoscopy. This is not a test to diagnose an umbilical hernia, though.

No: A colonoscopy is looking at the lining of your colon. An umbilical hernia is a defect in your abdominal wall at the level of your belly button. If not appreciated on physical examination, these hernias can be seen on ct scan.
