Yes: I do recommend using uv protection. (the lens should have a label that says it protects 100% uv-a and uv-b.) previous studies (new england fisherman study) showed that uv exposure was linked to cataract development.

Possibly a cyst: Ultraviolet light is thought to be a cause of cataracts, so wearing ultraviolet protecting sunglasses or wearing a wide brimmed hat may help to prevent cataract. However, it most likely will take a lifetime of wearing ultraviolet protection to prevent cataract, and this may be especially important during childhood to prevent cataract later on.
