A member asked:

Why is there so much negative commonts on prozac (fluoxetine)? did those people really commit suicide when stopping it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hype: Prozac (fluoxetine) was widely heralded as a wonder antidepressant drug with few if any side effects when it was first introduced. Then came a few reports of suicidal or homicidal behavior in people on prozac (fluoxetine). People like to blame their pathological behaviors on the drugs they take. All antidepressants have a slight risk for inducing suicidal ideation, hostility, or mania. Prozac (fluoxetine) is no worse than any others.
