Esophageal burn: Depends on the cause of the burn. Acid from reflux usually heals with medication but sometimes the cells change from chronic damage to form barrett's esophagus. Thermal burns usually heal well. Caustic burns such as in lye ingestion can cause scarring and stricture and in some cases lead to esophageal cancer years later.
