Irritation: When eyelashes are turned inwards, they can cause irritation to the surface of the eye itself. With enough damage, there may an increased for infection as well. Inturned eyelashes should be evaluated by an eye md and treated if necessary.

Trichiasis: This is irritating. Often the lash can simply be plucked out. Sometimes surgical intervention is necessary. But the condition should not be allowed to persist as it can be a setup for an infection.
