A member asked:

Can chewing tobacco trigger cold sores?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possible: Anything that lowers your immune response, and/or irritates the lining of your mouth can precipitate cold sores or activation of herpes simplex virus in the oral cavity. Best not to chew tobacco and to see your otolaryngologist if sores are in the mouth and you chew tobacco.
