Sometimes: Sometimes infants are not coordinated and drink and breathe at the same time. This may cause coughing or in some cases as aspiration pneumonia. This situation occurs more often in premature infants or infants who were depressed at birth. It still could happen with other infants and it takes time and patience to teach them how to not do both at the same time. Aspeechtherapist may help.
