Call your doctor.: Swollen hand when its arm is in a cast can be a sign of cast being tight enough to interfere with circulation., .

Cast: I assume you mean cast on your arm. Swelling to excess may cause skin, muscle, and nerve problems. Check right away with your orthopedic surgeon if you have increase in pain and numbness.

Elevate your hand: Swelling is common in the hand after applying a cast to the arm. Try elevating your hand above your heart and move your fingers to avoid stiffness. If you develop numbess or pain, contact your orthopedic surgeon to have your cast split to allow for the swelling.
