You should return to: the provider that did the procedure to see if they are worried about infection. Sometimes swelling indicates an inflammatory reaction such as allergy/hypersensitivity that is not infectious, but most of the time swelling (especially with redness, pain, or heat) connotes infection. ER: An immediate ER visit to rule out dangerous causes of the swelling is indicated. Possible dangers include damage to a blood vessel or nerve, infection, bleeding, reaction to,or migration of the implant. And with a lot of swelling, you need to visit the ER ASAP. You need to call the MD who put it in ASAP to communicate please. Would be safest to have an orthopaedic surgeon evaluate you. Good luck.
