Do you have to have a catheter with every kind of surgery or just some?

Some: It depends on the type of surgery. Longer surgical procedures, more complicated procedures, emergency surgery, or those people that may have multiple medical illnesses may have a urinary catheter. They catheter is usually removed soon after surgery.
