GERD: You may have gastroesophageal reflux disease. As you sleep, the acid can breach the phincter between your stomach and throat and the reflux irritates the lining of your throat. Talk to your doc about possible proton pump inhibitor. Aldo consider putting spacers under head of bed. Other causes could be viral illness, post nasal drainage and sinuses, or dry throat from sleep apnea. Hope it helps!

Sore throat: There's an array of different reasons for that. Allergies and acid reflux should strongly be considered. Smoking is a major contributor and needs to be quit the sooner the better.
