Nerve or muscle?: Rotator cuff problems include, inflammation, pressure, weakness, or damage to the tendons that constitute the rotator cuff. Conservative care w/anti-inflammatories, ice, and physical therapy. Sometimes surgery is necessary to repair a torn tendon or release pressure on the tendon. Surgery can also be helpful to release pressure on pinched nerves that supply cuff. An orthopaedic surgeon can help.

Shoulder surgeon: Usually it is sufficient to re-attach the muscle. Nerve release not usually needed. Ask your shoulder surgeon about the intra-op situation.
