Prescription policy: The standard of care includes seeing the patient in person before issuning a prescription of any type. If the patient has been in continuing care, the doctor may issue a refill over the phone.

Probably not: Your dentist would want to see what your problem was before rendering care. If you were already being treated by him/her for a specific problem, they may call in the prescription, already knowing that the infection is part of that problem.

Antibiotic therapy.: Every dentist has different policies. Our office never calls any prescriptions in unless they are a patient of record and have been seen within 6 months. If we are aware of a problem, then we may call a prescription in. You should have visible swelling or an increase in body temp. Due to the infection. Routine use of antibiotics for no reason is not a good idea.
