Unsure: It could be a new pregnancy, it could be that the old pregnancy was not completely removed, it could mean that you have persistent gestational neoplasia. All fairly easy to diagnose and treat - you need to see your doctor.

Couple of reasons: 1)depending on the hormone levels, it may take a while for the levels to drop to 0. 2)there may be retained tissue. 3)this could be a separate pregnancy. 4)there are some medical conditions (molar pregnancy) that can cause persistently elevated hormone levels. 5)the surgeon may not have completed the abortion (still an ongoing pregnancy). Follow up with the surgeon who performed the procedure.
