How can doctors tell if you have a brain tumor?

Symptoms and MRI: Brain tumors can cause different symptoms depending on location. For example, if it is adjacent to the motor areas, there may be weakness. If it is near the visual pathways, there can be loss of vision. Such complaints by the patient lead the doctors to order ct scans or mris. Mris in particular are very good at delineating the tumor from the normal brain. Contrast enhancement helps.

CT/MRI: Doctors diagnose brain tumors through a combination of clinical history, physical examination including a careful neurological examination, and imaging, including ct and MRI scans. Mri is the most sensitive way of finding and localizing a brain tumor. The exact type of tumor is determined when a sample of it is examined by a pathologist, preferably a neuropathologist.

Imaging: The diagnosis of a brain tumor starts with recognizing neurological problems and obtaining a good history and neurological examination. If a brain tumor is suspected ct or, better, MRI scans are usually done, and these will reveal a tumor if present, and indicate where and possibly what type. The actual diagnosis ultimately comes from removing some or all of it and having a pathologist examine it.
