HPV can cause cancer: Hpv infections an cause genital warts or even cancer, although this isn't likely. Any persistent sores should prompt a visit to a dr. The hpv vaccine can help lower the risks of warts, female cancers (vaginal, vulvar, cervical), male cancers (penis, anus) and oral cancers.

Dormant ???????: About a dozen strains of HPV are associated with common and rare forms of cancer, but I would not call this a "dormant" HPV.Dormant implies the strain was acquired but is hibernating. You are likely equating unseen with dormant, which is not correct. Keeping up with regular exams and going in for any symptoms are a way to recognize & treat problems early if they arise.
