A member asked:

Is amoxicillin / clavulanate same as bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Amoxicillin / clavulanate is a penicillin-type antibiotic. The clavulanate increases susceptability of some bacteria to the amoxicillin. Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) is a combination sulfa antibiotic composed of two antibiotics: trimethprim and sulfamethoxazole.
