A member asked:

My 14 year old daughter is having dark red chunky period blood, and has cramps. is this normal cycle or could it be something bad, she isn't late.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Likely normal: It's normal to pass clots, and to have blood be darker than normal. When girls are in their teens, the communication between pituitary and ovary is still maturing. If your daughter is very thin or is heavy, this can lead to abnormal bleeding. If she has a lot of nosebleeds, or other bleeding, she may need checked for von willebrand disease. Thyroid can be another explanation. Good luck!
