Will help a little: The diluted peroxide will keep bacterial levels down, which will obviously help with the healing. Too much use, however, can irritated the tender tissues even more. You are under the care of your own dentist who knows your situation best... It's better to ask him/her for their input since they are treating you.

Not a bad idea: Hydrogen peroxide is an oxidizing agent that releases oxygen into your mouth when you rinse. The oxygen is a good boost for healing and there are over the counter h2o2 solutions you can buy that are flavored are more pleasant to use. It will not kill the gum disease, your dentist will start your care and will do that by following your dentist's instructions after treatment.
