I have a nerve pain headache in the back of my head, on theleft side but it is not horribly painful. i had a ct scan a weekago and it was clean. i have a history of syrinx. i have anappointment with the neurologist tomorrow. what can causethis?

Many possibilities: Most common possibilities include degenerative cervical disk disease, expanding syrinx, musculoskeletal pain among others.

Stress: Some of these headaches pain can be related to stress and anxiety. Proton pump inhibitors can also cause headaches and calcium imbalances which can also cause muscle spams with pain. Keep your apt.

Occipital neuralgia : You may have occipital neuralgia. Its hard to tell without more history and physical exam, but sharp shooting pains starting at the base of your skull that radiates up one side of your head can certainly be related to that. However, with the syrinx history I am certainly glad you are seeing your neurologist just to be safe. Diagnostic nerve block can tell you if it's occipital neuralgia.Good luck!
