A member asked:

If certain cells mediated a severe attack on peripheral nerves killing the nerves surely we would be able to feel the pain of nerves being attacked ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not really.: Pain as a sensation happens when pain fibers are stimulated, and since pain fibers are unmyelinated, they are less commonly attacked. One example of a "severe attack" on nerve fibers that does cause pain is herpes zoster.
