Rib pain: Pain in the ribs can mean so many things. If the pain is significant when you breathe, you can't catch your breath, the pain is unbearable, the rib is tender, you should be seen by a doc.

Depends on: Where (right, left) , exactly, for how long (hours, days, weeks) & your general condition (reason for scan and ultrasound, etc.) doctors think in terms of body structures within certain locations: rib area may mean bone, nerve, blood vessel, muscle, tendon, organ (spleen, kidney, liver, gall bladder). Also, since you are already being evaluated for kidney issues, the answer may be there. Details?
