I am experiencing joint pain (hip, knees). is it because of the atorvastatin i am taking? what is a good alternative?

Most likely no: You are right to be concerned about atorvostatin, but it usually causes muscle aches, not joint pain. If you are having specific joint pain with no muscles aches, pains or cramps, it is most likely not related. If you do get muscle aches, or if you notice darkening or decreased urine, see your primary and he can check blood tests to see if it is the statin. Otherwise, probably not related.

Less likely than m.: Less likely than muscle pain with a statin, but withdrawal trial would answer that question. As to alternatives, that requires a personalized approach.
