Low Back with Foot : Arthritis is a rare cause of numbness. The numbness/pain you describe in your right big toe is normally related to an L4 nerve root irritation. Seek an opinion from a back doctor. When back irritation on the sciatic nerve causes foot symptoms, it is called radiculopathy. Treatment should be directed to the foot and back combined. Possibly: Possibly through pressure on nerves, but this picture is more complicated. Rheumatologic evaluation would be required to see if this is mechanical or related.

Possibly: If arthritis leads to enlarged joints beside the spine and spinal stenosis, it can put pressure on a nerve and cause pain and numbness.
